Junkyard Animations began as an online portfolio for Pavel's College animation work. He needed a name, settled on something scrappy, and bought the domain on November 21st, 2006.
The cartoons hit harder than expected. Traffic spiked, and the site was shut down because Pavel wasn't paying for enough bandwidth. He upgraded the hosting plan, paid a classmate Jordan B. a few hundred bucks and a bottle of whiskey to rebuild the site, and the Junkyard was officially born.
The Junkyard's twisted DNA comes from a specific era and a specific kind of weird:

In mid 2007, Newgrounds.com featured several Junkyard Animations cartoons and games on their homepage, which spiked site traffic 10x (from 1,000 unique visitors per day to 10,000). Those several featured cartoons received over half a million views.
Attack of the Giant Penises hit 1 million plays — the Junkyard's first true viral moment.YouTube deleted the Junkyard Animations account after three strikes for inappropriate content — right as it had grown to 996 subscribers, just 4 shy of qualifying for the YouTube Partner Program.
Google AdSense suspended Junkyard Animations' ad revenue for running ads on inappropriate cartoon pages. AdSense had been the site's main source of income, and losing it devastated Pavel and worsened an already difficult financial situation.
Aniboom.com was next. After featuring several Junkyard cartoons on their homepage — including "Viagra" and "STDs" — they quietly introduced a new adult-content filter. Pavel wasn't aware of the change and was banned without warning for having adult cartoons that weren't marked as such.
In 2013, the site went dark... financial and time constraints made it impossible to keep going. The Junkyard sat dormant for almost 3 years.
Pavel never wanted to admit to financial issues. He also received death threats and hate mail asking him to stop creating cartoons, which was discouraging.
However in 2015, the Junkyard returned. New animations, new energy, same crude soul.
In February 2017, Game Grumps featured Fuck Mr. Hatcher on their YouTube channel.
The Junkyard had its biggest moment to date, and proved the crude-cartoon spirit was still alive.
Fuck Mr. Hatcher now has over 4.3 million views on YouTube and received a cult following online that still, to this day, demands the sequel, Fuck Mr. Hatcher 2.
Many reaction videos were created by streamers, and it helped a large group of people come out of the closet.
The game did stir up some controversy, as some viewers assumed the main character, Dan, was underage — but he was actually 18, the same age Pavel was when he created the game. Others accused the game of depicting "rape," though it only includes consensual sexual content, such as the two characters rubbing their penises together.
Junkyard Animations went viral on TikTok in 2020 and 2021 during Covid-19. Several cartoons hit over 1 million plays within a few months, the account grew to 55,000 followers, with several hundred comments daily. Pavel would get suspended responding to too many comments.
The Junkyard never plays nice with corporate platforms. We belong here, where the rules belong to us.
Junkyard Animations did create a new TikTok account and gained back 22,000 of the lost followers, which ironically was the same number of users the original Junkyard Animations website had.
Several cartoons have over half a million plays, and Pavel would go Live to draw in real-time for followers, until his Live was banned from TikTok for accidentally showing cartoon boobs.
Junkyard Animations is not polished, corporate, or family-friendly — and that's the whole point.
The cartoons are hand-drawn with a computer mouse, rude, strange, dark, and intentionally ridiculous. They mix lowbrow comedy with bizarre characters, uncomfortable situations, and the kind of chaotic humour that defined the old internet.
